CV

Vsevolod Kazarin (he/him) is a Kyiv-based researcher, photographer, and publisher.

His practice combines photographic creation with research into visual practices and their role in constructing daily reality, from frontline mobile imagery to late Soviet visual culture, war, and masculinity. Working at the intersection of publishing, technology, and experimental humanities, he investigates social and political structures shaped by conflict and political transformation.

In 2022, Kazarin co-founded Solomiya print magazine, which has since evolved into a broader platform encompassing publishing, research, and curatorial practices. Operating between Kyiv, Berlin, and other cities, the Solomiya art collective focuses on underrepresented discourses, organizing public programs and exhibitions across the continent.

Back to the overview

Vsevolod [24.07.25, 21:24]
How have these past few days been for you?
No  rotations yet?

Starman [25.07.25, 19:32]

No, no rotation yet. Everything ‘s the same — flew some missions, watched a series, ate, went to sleep.  Woke up, ate, flew again... Except sometimes the guided bombs and artillery hit near us — but the position is intact, everyone’s fine. It’s just tense and stressful when they announce guided bombs incoming or when the shells start whistling

Vsevolod [17.06.25, 10:34]
What have you listened to recently?

Starman [17.06.25, 10:39]

Yesterday and today I listened to Belphegor, before that Garbage, VNV Nation, Sparks, Leather Strip, Yellow Magic Orchestra, Darkthrone. I usually listen to whole albums.

Project by Starman and Vsevolod Kazarin

2025

The project was realized for Solomiya No. 5 After Now

Over several months, a soldier codenamed 'Starman' sent daily photos to Vsevolod Kazarin via WhatsApp. At the same time, the two men exchanged text messages—one serving on the front lines, the other living as a civilian in the rear.
